History of the A. P. Taylor Trust

Albert Palmer Taylor

Mr A. P. Taylor, born 1885 in Willesden, died 1952 in Hayes, was a well-known Estate Agent in Hayes, Middlesex.

He was a founding member of the Hayes Rotary Club in 1935, served on many of its committees and as its President from 1941 – 1942. Before the intervention of the war, he had taken an interest in international affairs and had visited Rotary conferences on the Continent and in America. He was also a president of the Hayes and Harlington Chamber of Commerce, a well-known Freemason and a member of the Middlesex Yeomasonry Lodge.

A member of the Conservative party, he served on the Hayes Town Council, from January 1943 until April 1946, representing the South Ward. In 1946, he was appointed Chairman of the Conservative Party's Southall Division and, from 1947, President. He served as the inaugural President of the Conservative Party's Hayes End Ward from 1948.

His support of good causes continued after his death, with the foundation, on July 16th, 1969, of the A. P. Taylor Trust from his Estate.

Bert Tyrrell, a former mayor and councillor for Hayes awarded the MBE for his services to the community, died on Jun 9, 2009, at the age of 94 years. He was severely injured by a bomb during service in the Second World War, in Libya, his recovery taking 3 years. He then ran Quality Cars, a car showroom in Southall for more than 25 years and then Nutshell, a sweet shop on the Uxbridge Road, Hayes. Amongst his many contributions to community life, he served as a magistrate at Uxbridge Magistrates Court between 1959 and 1984. and as chairman of the Hayes Older People's Welfare Committee for more than 35 years.

The A. P. Taylor Trust are grateful to Bert for his chairmanship of the trustees for several decades. The other trustees would like to express their sympathy to his son, Keith, his daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
